Episode 171 -- Heavy Metal (the movie) turns 40

Welcome back to the Manor!  As you can tell, our "next time" from last week's episode has changed.  We almost missed the 40th anniversary of Heavy Metal, that most awesome of animated films!  It was released this month (just a few days ago in fact) in 1981.  There will be two parts, with the second part being the movie soundtrack.  Here, though, we discuss the movie itself!  The actual scenes and from where it was conceived.  There are some really wicked awesome evil things we gloss over, as even though it's 40 years old, Jody didn't want to give spoilers and James was okay with that.  

So enjoy some heavy metal evilness!

Episode 170 -- Led Zeppelin's fourth album (part 4 of 4)

Welcome to another Zepisode!  Get it? Snicker snicker.

We finally finish our delve into Zeppelin's magical fourth album (call it what you will - we covered that a Zepisode or two ago) during its 50th anniversary year.  This time we go over touring, throw in some cool general quotes from the band about this time, and a bit of miscellaneous items that didn't fit elsewhere!  

Next week's episode is part 2 on Tommy Bolin!  Probably.  That's what's scheduled for now anyway.  If it's something else, you'll know that one of us didn't finish editing it.

Episode 168 -- The Terrors debate the first metal album

Welcome back to the Manor!  The Terrors debate a couple of solid albums from the late '70s to decide which should be considered the first metal album.  Yes, we did decide on a winner (at least for now, in this first match-up).  It went pretty much four falls to three, after including several aspects including influence.  If you want to see which albums and which won, listen on!

Episode 166 -- Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon saga of mead, metal, and mayhem (part 1)

Welcome back to the Manor!  Today's topic truly is one that deserves a mazer or horn of mead.  We've both read a few different translations of Beowulf (Tolkien and Heaney for James super recently and Jody in the semi-not-distant past and Headley for Jody in the here-and-now) and wanted to be nerds about the variations and also just geekzerker (a kinning of geek and berserker) out on the saga itself.

We do have a part 2 coming up about adaptations, as well, so don't think we've forgot about that!  

Next week's episode is a live episode!  Well, it was to us.  We finally managed to sit down and have some beers and talk about... well, you'll see next week, but trust us, it's a grand time, indeed!
